Les fouilles de Paykend : nouveaux éléments

Rocco Rante and Abdisabur Raimkulov
p. 237-258

Abstracts

This article presents the preliminary new data from ongoing archaeological excavations in Paykend. The issues addressed are the foundation of the city and medieval urbanism, using stratigraphical data as well as the results of archaeometric analyses. The extensive excavation at the Shahrestan-1 uncovered a Samanid settlement of the 9th to 10th centuries, providing new architectural data. Outside the fortified city, near the canal which supplied its water, a quarter for manufacturing goods was excavated . These new results modify and complete the historiographical framework of the city and the region, since the time of its foundation in the 4th century.
